I live in CT where the rent is very expensive .. I've been working in the same position working since February 2010 (I'm expecting an increase in February 2011) and 30,000 per year do not include taxes or health insurance .. my house is to have about $ 970 every two weeks (1,940 per month). Parking here for a bedroom is a place of 650 (hard to find, but there are some) and most are about 700 to 800. If no heat and hot water included think I can afford this? I paid my car off, so we have no car payments. My accounts are now only car insurance, which is 95 per month and mobile which is about 85. I owe another big 2 in credit card debt and that will be paid. I have 4000 in my bank account right now. Do you think I'm in a good place to pay the rent on my own or I have to make more money? Typically you do not want to hire more than 29 to 33% of their income. So your income is now pushing 650 in rent. If I were you I would use a couple thousand of those savings to pay credit card. Wait until the increase in February. So do not push beyond 650.
