Would you allow a smoker in your home?
The easy answer is – no way, they all stink. Yet not all smokers are total losers.
If Arnold Schwarzenegger or Bill Clinton or Barack Obama came to my door I would probably let them in, counting on them to step outside if they want to light up. So maybe I would hold my nose and cut them some slack.
But most people smoke cigarettes, which stink worse than cigars, and the dirty odor clings to their clothes, their bodies, their hair, and their breath. So they would be told to leave.
The foulest smelling cigarettes are IMHO the menthol ones, and no way would I tolerate a Salem junkie around my property.
What’s your position?
Yes, I would allow a smoker in my apartment, but if they want to smoke they have to do it outside and away from the entrance and also dispose of the finished stub appropriately. They do stink and I know that because I used to smoke for over 24 years and am reformed. A while after I stopped smoking and my olfactory senses started working normally again I happened to step into an elevator with a smoker and I was surprised how bad that person stunk and I thought to myself, “Oh my goodness, and I stunk like for all that time!”
But anyway, I definitely wouldn’t turn away a friend or family member just because they smoked. They just need to respect my need for a clean smelling apartment. There are many smokers here in my building where I rent and they aren’t allowed to smoke in the halls, but when the door to their apartment is open and smoke comes out it does drift down the hall and creeps into every apartment at that moment. After not smoking for 14 years that is not a pleasant smell. So I have a small carpet that I roll up against the door so I don’t have to smell that crap.
