The Indians are known to be motivated, speak good English and have the skills Australia needs desperately for its open economy boom.
In fact, due to a chronic shortage of skills in Australia, people with computer skills, accounting and engineering have become the fastest growing group of immigrants to Australia from Asia.
The number of immigrants from India during the 12 months ended in June this year shot 11 286, an increase of 20 percent over the previous year, according to the Ministry Australia's Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs.
In fact, India has surpassed China to become the third largest source of immigrants to Australia at all, after Great Britain and New Zealand.
"The migrants are attracted to India by Australia to the level of security here, job opportunities and weather, "Dr Siddalingeswara Orekondy, President of the Indian Association, told The Sunday Times.
Physicians and other health professionals are also moving to Australia that the reputation of India to produce a talented workforce continues to grow.
Australia's largest sources of migrants, because of their ties colonial history, Britain and New Zealand.
In total, 131,593 immigrants came to the coast of Australia last year – up seven per cent last year.
Although the number of immigrants from India increased, those from China increased from 11,095 to 10,581.
After India and China, the Philippines was the fifth largest source of migrants, with 4,871 settlers. It was followed by Asian countries like Malaysia, at No. 8 in 2967 and the Singapore General No. 9 with 2,685 immigrants.
Latest figures show that Australia takes migrants at both ends of the spectrum of skills that Canberra is in competition with other developed countries like the USA USA and Canada for global talent.
Most immigrants from Great Britain, for example, were jobs more skilled as nurses, construction and engineering professionals and administrators. But also some workers carpenters, electricians and hairdressers.
Most Indians were computing professionals, followed by sales and services, accountants and engineers.
Macquarie University researchers Dr Selvaraj Velayutham and Dr Amanda Wise told the Sunday Times that indigenous migrants were evaluated because they are English-Education and skills in areas such as the shortage of IT, engineering and health.
Among them are Shantanu Chakraborty who has moved to Sydney from Mumbai five years ago.
"They value my (work) because within two years of joining them, I received an offer collaboration in the company, which is great, "said the expert of 32 years old IT of the BBC.
Political hot potato, however, is at the lower end ~ skilled jobs in high demand, such as carpenters, cooks, hairdressers and maintenance personnel.
Critics have accused the government created a "guest worker" system for foreign professionals to blue collar workers, giving them visas short term of six months to four years.
Opposition Leader Kim Beazley accused the Government to allow foreign immigrants to undermine wages and stealing jobs from Australians together.
However, Chakraborty and his wife, and many other Indians like them, intending to stay.
He said: "I do not think I will unless something drastic happens to the other side of the world, but now I'm here for life."
