Community organization: How Mn The GOP and Minneapolis North can learn from the Obama campaign
Thursday, February 19 2009 I was invited at the beginning of Macy's celebration of Black History Month, held on the second floor between the men's suits and shoes. The culmination event was a roundtable organized by an editor of north Minneapolis. Group members include the University of Minnesota IAMMOODY.com the Trent Tucker Richard Moody: Women risk Tene Wells, (former) Judge Pamela Alexander, Councilman Don Samuels and Ralph Remington and others.
I speak of this event because the panelists were not invited to reflect on the history of blacks, but on the nomination Barack Obama, What does having a black president and other "biased" questions that in my opinion, not reflect not be difficult battle to fight or we meet again in the U.S. as people of color. Every day I hear Black people say, "Yes, we have a black president, everything is fine now. "But this is not true.
Obama is not descended from a cloud in the sky and wave his magic wand and chanting: "All your problems disappear now. "But listen people, you might think that the election Obama was the prelude to the second coming of Christ.
I am not against the President Barack Obama, I think the election of a black man as president of the United States is the best thing that happened to our nation. Having a black man hold the position highest office has helped our nation and the world the opportunity to see a positive image of a black man who is educated, married to a black woman and the increase of the family. This image is in direct contrast to the flow of images that came to reflect the black family and culture.
Moreover, the choice President Obama highlights practices of my party, the Republican Party, which tend to reinforce the old practices of white males. I hate to be alone in saying that the old Republican party dead white male. In fact, the GOP brand is outdated. To compete with progressive practices the Obama campaign, the Republican Party must develop a more effective way to imply that the European Community, in other words, the government of Pakistan must be inclusive.
I encourage the Government of Pakistan to adopt strategies of the Obama campaign. If anyone has read some of the first written by the President, you will see a set of community involvement that focuses organize and mobilize people. During her as a community organizer, the President was reported to realize that to achieve a goal, had to bring all those involved I had the skills to do the job. No hand outs. Here in the Twin Cities, Local Black "self-appointed" leaders threw the ball Obama said: "Obama will give us some of that stimulus money." Well, I hate to burst your bubble, but President Obama will not "give" you shit!
President Obama met with some of the same problems in the community organization in Chicago that we face here in Minneapolis. For example, when the organization of black people at the community level, often find some that are placed in a new attempt to get "money" and exclude ultimatley true stakeholders in the community. The evidence for this position came in 2008 when the community discussions with the University of Minnesota / Urban Research Center and Extension (UROC) and other projects financed by the state. (I'm very happy that the representatives of the U of M could see through the information presented and work in a more dynamic, open, transparent).
Organizting black people at the community level is one of the most difficult challenges for the North Minneapolis. People gathered in the room are not an accurate representation of how the business community. Young black women who have not graduated from high school and is unemployed with three children will not be in the room. In addition, the young man just released from prison desperately looking for a job will not be in the room. Although these two types of people are members of our community will not have a place in the room because they have been deliberately excluded and ignored. Consequently, outreach efforts are sabotaged.
During the roundtable, the newspaper editor has informed potential customers that your organization can provide ("sell") community black for a dollar amount. Those of us in the media and marketing professionals are well aware that public relations in Minneapolis / St. Paul newspaper can not and will not achieve the diversity and black African populations that exist in the Twin Cities. Furthermore, it is imperative that companies (like Macy's) beyond the rhetoric of the fact that a number of ethnic minority media, which are able to meet your advertising / marketing purpose, not just a media Output has this capability.
To be successful in outreach to the community or organization should include all members of the community. The awareness local coordinators must demonstrate "understanding, unconditional compassion" to help the poor percentage of the community through the installation of "adequate 2.0.
Community outreach efforts in leaves nonprofit or reached the heights it should be for one or two reasons:
• Do not have thrown for advertising and marketing.
• The Agency has become an institution in itself to promoting the awareness of staff participation. (This occurs several times in 2009 and continues to nonprofit organizations for social services Minneapolis North).
President EU strategies Obama campaign to recognize and uphold effective organization that has mobilized an entire nation. If you come to search the room "war" in Chicago during his election campaign that saw only white faces on the phones and computers, to the points of his talk, "ping" across the world. In addition, the campaign has been very selective about who was seen with the candidate Barack Obama in public, and the opportunities that applies in the photo. But their outreach efforts include everyone! They are committed to the student house on campus, and the old, which includes single mothers and their children, including Hispanics, blacks, whites and homosexuals and heterosexuals.
Obama's campaign – Unlike the Republican Party or outreach activities in northern Minneapolis – Invoke the key to including the mass and the philosophy of "appropriating 2.0", giving people from all walks of life can to act as representatives of the campaign Barack Obama's presidential elections.
