I swear i hate when people go on tangents instead of answering someone’s question, I say that because what you ask is something i wonder myself some time ago.
Here is why people that are againts a path to citizenship (not amensty, there is a difference, at least by definition), Immigration to them (people that vote for obama but are againts his immigration policy) is just a second hand issue, there are other things that are more important to them, like national security, War, gov. expenditure, etc..
So people figure, “well i guess Pablo will be a citizen soon but at least i wont die due to bad health care” thats the essential view of a voter that you describe
