Women have come a long way in recent decades: greater parity in salaries, career options, more freedom in choosing of style of life. But how far have we reached our base self-esteem?
It is surprising that so many of us still in areas that we are inadequate, maybe even powerless. We can be CEOs, doctors, U.S. senators – but you can always cringe to treat (and to be weird at first), a new sport, showing imperfect short legs, or request an increase in long awaited. We can negotiate fiercely in the courtroom of the Commission – but to put up with bad hair cuts for months before we get up the courage "fire" our hairdresser. We sat not "small" in our airplane seats, too eager to take space.
Love itself Not the same thing as assertiveness. Assertiveness is a behavior, self-esteem is the underlying feeling of dignity, courage, love itself. Many of us in business or sports or other situations of competition have learned to assert themselves – but as a survival mechanism, not necessarily meaning underlying self-esteem.
This gap between how we act – assertive – and how you you feel – do not deserve or unworthy – causes of tensions, a sense of incongruity, and certainly less effective in our performances and our lives. Trying "fake until they do," we prepare to never get them all!
And despite our lack of self-esteem than women may be rooted in the past, the signs of our family, the underlying messages in our culture, etc etc etc – the power to improve our self-image is at present. constraints of the past can be corrected by rehabilitation at present.
How this? First step is awareness and recognition. You feel like you're "on the road" on the golf course? You feel shy tell your doctor that you want a second opinion? Or when you gird prepared to cope with a situation in the office, it takes incredible your body and emotions?
After you have identified the areas in which self-esteem is lagging, try this practice:
1. With eyes closed, sit quietly and bear in mind the situation where you felt unworthy.
2. Let yourself feel the image in his mind. How do you feel in your body? Where exactly is the feeling in your body?
3. Within minutes, your attention to your breath, breathing deeply and inhaling it complete.
4. As you let your body relax with your breathing, imagine yourself in the same situation, but as a new and truly free and able confident.
5. Sit down with this new image of himself for several minutes while breathing deep.
While doing this practice, if your new image is not perfect, do not despair! You have already resulted a change in your sense of self simply recognition and respiration through the hassle of age. Playing with art, and notes how much more dynamic is the self-insurance self-images – and the force with this simple practice impact on your life!
