If the BP oil spill continues as it is, people will be in danger too?

My stepfather said something on the ocean floor to collapse, and I do not really understand what he said, but now I'm really concerned about people in the lower middle of the United States because he said that would be affected. I'm Canadian, but I have friends in Texas and is one state that still talking ... I do not want to get hurt or sick or anything, and now I'm really worried for them. Does anything happen to them?

Maybe if America Transocean / Haliburton Oil spill is how it goes, could constitute a danger to humans or humans, which virtually excludes Americans being harmed.
