Wendell Potter: Who Is More Essential? You or Health Insurers? (Huffington post)
The money that patients’ rights advocates have to spend to convince the
administration that Americans should have decent health care benefits pales in
comparison to the boatloads of cash insurers and their corporate allies have
on hand to do largely the opposite.

Special Ed Schools and Obama by Steve ST-Pierre
Since the last Presidential Elections, Barack Obama has emphasized that his then-upcoming government will take special interest in upholding education. Special ed schools have been one of those given importance by the running President and Vice-President that time. According to the website
A sadistic murderer was executed on Wednesday. He deserved his execution for showing a blatant disregard for human life.
However, I’m not referring there to Troy Anthony Davis but to Lawrence Russell Brewer who dragged to death James Byrd, Jr. on a Texas road in June, 1998. He and Davis met the same fate of lethal injection, Brewer for using a pickup truck to kill, Davis for using a gun.
Both were very deserving and, in answer to the title question, Troy Davis was a murderer.
Brewer exhausted the usual appeals process although no one had protested the evils of capital punishment or contested the fairness of his trial on his behalf. He had no final statement other than a single tear.
Davis pulled out all stops enabling him to escape his just due for a decade longer than Brewer and had become a popular icon before he succumbed to the fatal brew of a barbiturate, paralytic agent, and potassium solution meant to send him blissfully to the Great Beyond. He declared his innocence to the bitter end.
If it means anything, Brewer was white, Davis was an African-American.
Based on all the blue tee shirts emblazoned with the words “I Am Troy Davis” outside Georgia courthouses, the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles and, ultimately, the Georgia State Prison near Reidsville, it would seem there were many Troy Davises but in actuality there was only one and he was a murderer as surely as was Lawrence Russell Brewer.
Davis was convicted on August 19th, 1989 by a jury of his peers on a number of charges including shooting and killimg police officer Mark MacPhail and he was executed 22 years later on September 21st, 2011, the same date as Brewer’s execution.
Mumia Abu-Jamal either has better lawyers or his supporters have been more vocal than Davis’ since Abu-Jamal is still alive-and writing books!-and Troy Davis isn’t.
Let’s just dispense with the death penalty controversy since executing convicted murderers has been upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court. As for the fairness of his trial and his guilt, those issues were settled long ago.
Prosecutors called thirty four witnesses, some eyewitnesses, to the stand, the defense called six. Davis’ jury consisted of seven blacks and only five whites. His conviction was upheld in various courts, even after SCOTUS, based on alleged new evidence, ordered an evidentiary hearing last year. Clemency appeals were rejected by both the state of Georgia and none other but his fellow African-American, President Barack Hussein Obama.
However, none of that matters when Big Guns such as Amnesty International, the NAACP, and a slew of celebrities latch onto a cause and especially because of that “new evidence,” namely some seven witnesses oddly recanting their testimony after swearing under oath at trial to tell the truth under penalty of perjury.
More objective observers than Amnesty International, the NAACP, Bishop Desmond Tutu, Al Sharpton, Jimmy Carter, Pope Benedict XVI, et al. have proven those recantations were a crock.
Erick Erickson on RedState.com pointed out that three eyewitnesses, members of the Air Force, seemed to have better memories than the recanters and didn’t alter their positive identification of Davis as Officer MacPhail’s murderer. As one said, “You don’t forget someone that stands over and shoots someone.”
Well, yes and no. A few who recanted, including Davis homies, had an amazing failure of recollection, sort of.
One of the seven who were miraculously able to reinterpret what they witnessed twenty one years earlier claimed he wasn’t sure now whether Davis shot MacPhail despite the fact he had been standing five feet away. Another, Davis’ now deceased girlfriend, simply repeated her testimony at his trial during which she had cited him as the shooter.
Most damning is that “Only two of the seven . . . actually recanted anything of value-and those two affidavits were discounted by the court because Davis refused to allow the affiants to testify at the post-trial evidentiary hearing.” (http://bit.ly/ntBbVI)
Something smells about the execution of Troy Davis. Indeed, a lot smells and none of the stench is emanating from his trials or his convictions. The stink is rooted in a blind defense of a man who was clearly and multiply identified as the killer of Mark MacPhail, a married father of two, predicated on media hype and/or misguided intentions.
The rectitude of the death penalty aside, if any men merited execution, they were Lawrence Russell Brewer and Troy Anthony Davis. The fact that the spectre of race played a major part in the demonstrations seeking to overturn Davis’ fair and just conviction and sentence only contributes to a spreading sense that justice in President Obama’s America should be meted out on a racial basis.
If and when Mumia Abu-Jamal gets what’s coming to him, it will be some reassurance that justice still prevails in our country.

Revenge of the Neocons (Prospect)
As much as Hope and Change defined Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign, his success
was a clear rebuke of the policies in the George W. Bush presidency. Bush’s
approval rating hung at 25 percent on the day Obama was elected, and John
McCain did everything he could to distance himself from the incumbent
Republican president. Bush’s legacy was tarnished for a number of reasons, but
none more so than his foolhardy foreign-policy agenda. When the Democratic
candidate who rose to fame for his early opposition to Iraq won the
presidency, it appeared the neo-con age had come to a close.
Three years later, it’s clear that wasn’t the case. The Heritage Foundation
and AEI cohosted the presidential debate last night; in addition to CNN
moderator Wolf Blitzer, audience members from the two conservative think tanks
had the chance to quiz the roster of candidates. The list of attendees read
like an all-star neo-conservatives from the Bush White House.
Paul Wolfowitz served as a deputy Secretary of Defense during the first Bush
term and was one of the key architects of the failed Iraq War. Now a visiting
scholar at AEI, Wolfowitz had the chance to ask …
Real estate tycoon, TV, personality, businessman, and president? Donald Trump has recently caused quite the headache for a President with so much on his plate already. Mr. Trump launched himself into the spotlight when he questioned the citizenship of Barack Obama, claiming that the Hawaiian native never presented the nation with an official birth certificate in which the President finally refuted at the White House Correspondents Dinner on Saturday April 30 which earned the President many laughs. With Donald Trump considering running for President in 2012 a lot of people think that the birth certificate fiasco was an early attempt to poke holes in Barack Obama’s 2012 campaign. In fact, as soon as the President cleared the air Mr. Trump began to question the legitimacy of Mr. Obama’s grades when he attended Harvard and again Donald went as far as to ask for proof in the form of the President’s college transcripts.
Prior to researching and writing this article, when I thought of Donald Trump several words or phrases immediately came to mind:
1. Money
2. Real Estate
3. Beautiful wives
Politician was not at all in that list, so I wanted to know where he stood on the more popular issues and what his political history might be.
This is what I found:
Political History
2000-Trump considered running as a third-party candidate for the United States presidency by the Reform Party as a business conservative.
2001-Registered with the Democratic Party
2004- Trump considered running for the Republican Party
2006-Trump considered running for the governor of New York
2007-Registered with the Republican Party
2008- Trump again considered running for the Republican Party
Trump’s present political stances include the following:
Pro-life Against same-sex marriage Anti-gun control Advocates for the repeal and replacement of Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act[100] Anti-foreign aid Supports a fair trade policy and believes generally that the People’s Republic of China should be considered more of an adversarial competitor, subjected to significant import tariffs as a response to China’s currency policy in order to help balance the U.S. budget. Believes the U.S. should disengage in Iraq and Afghanistan[
Taking into consideration the Trumpeters’ history of indecision not only with whether to actually run or not, but also with what party to run with, it is probably a safe bet that he won’t actually run. Besides, how many jobs does one guy need? Would he be able to lighten his load in order to put an entire nation first? Regardless, if the Donald does decide to run and makes the nomination it is not the comedians that the nation will be looking to for jokes and witty remarks, it’s the president.
Welcome to my mind and thanks for joining me! Donald Trump: I’m Probably The Least Racist Person There Is (NewsHounds)
Donald Trump visited the Hannity show last night (12/5/11) for a lapdog
interview. I’ve written extensively about Hannity’s very troubling record on
race and some of that troubling record involved Trump – who suggested on
Hannity’s show that African Americans voted for then-candidate Barack Obama
out of racism. This, on top of Trump’s comments about having “a great
relationship with the blacks” and his continued accusations – thoroughly
debunked – that President Obama has not proved he was born in the U.S.A. Not
only has Hannity failed to challenge Trump on any of that, Hannity painted
Trump as a racial…

As yet there is no category for most amazing backtracking done by a president in the Guinness Book of World Records but there is little doubt that Barack Obama would beat all other entrants to the category hands down.
Using words and phrases like Obama changes stance, clarifies or explains what he really meant are rife across the news cycle of the mainstream media including the internet. Explanations, gyrations and backtracking notwithstanding the rest of America is not going to be fooled as in, they know exactly what they heard the first time. If the audacity of dumb Americans was not already the thorn in Obama

President Barack Obama and congressional leaders will continue to negotiate a possible deficit reduction deal this week to clear the way for congressional Republicans to back an increase in the federal debt ceiling.
While discussions continued over the weekend after the last full negotiating session Thursday, no significant progress has occurred and the chances for a comprehensive deficit deal sought by Obama in coming weeks appear remote.
Without a major deal, Congress would have to focus instead on a smaller agreement to raise the debt ceiling or face the unprecedented situation in 15 days of the government not having enough money to pay all its bills. The debt ceiling has reached its $14.3 trillion legally permitted maximum.
Senate leaders are working on a possible debt ceiling measure, based on a plan that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, unveiled last week. That plan would give Obama power to raise the borrowing limit by a total of $2.5 trillion but also require three congressional votes on the issue before the 2012 general election.
According to Senate aides from both parties, a revised version of the McConnell plan being put together with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nevada, could come up for consideration this week, but only after legislators vote on Republican measures calling for spending cuts, caps on future spending and a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution.
While the GOP measures are expected to fail, the votes would satisfy a Republican desire to get Democrats on the record with their opposition to them.

Hatch: Debt ‘#1 issue’
No debt ceiling increase? RELATED TOPICS National Debt U.S. Congressional Politics Barack Obama Leaders from both parties say the McConnell-Reid plan is not the preferred option, but they don’t rule it out if efforts to strike a broader deal fail.
“The minimum is I believe the debt will be extended,” budget director Jacob Lew told the ABC program “This Week” on Sunday. “… Our efforts over the next days will be to, in addition to that, do as much as we possibly can to make the tough decisions” needed for a broader deal.
Obama warned last week that he could not guarantee older Americans will receive their Social Security checks next month if a deal is not reached. GOP leaders accused the president of resorting to scare tactics.
“This is a different situation than the United States has ever faced,” Lew said of a possible default. He refused to discuss how spending might be prioritized, saying, “Once one gets into the business of trying to ask about setting priorities, it misses the fundamental question, which is that it’s unacceptable for the United States to be in a place where — whether it’s a Social Security recipient or a soldier or somebody who is just owed money by the government — can’t be paid because we have not done our job.”
Republicans complained that they have offered the only concrete proposals to address mounting deficits and federal debt so far, from a House budget proposal earlier this year to the “cut, cap and balance” plan pushed by conservatives that comprises spending cuts, caps on future spending as a percentage of economic production and a balanced budget amendment to the constitution.
“I’m a little frustrated that — you’ve heard it in the press conference of the president, you’ve heard it today from the administration’s spokesman — they are never willing to be specific about the reductions in spending that they would be willing to do,” conservative Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Arizona, said Sunday.

The New Populists (Prospect)
In the month before the destruction of the encampment in Zuccotti Park, I got
in the habit of biking across the Brooklyn Bridge each night to talk with the
Wall Street Occupiers and wander among the tents. There was always work to
behold—bigger tents going up, new volunteers welcomed, the kitchen doling out
free food, the media groups live-streaming, dishes being done, cops being
teased—and always conversation to be had and heard.
The protesters liked to work, but they loved to talk, and mostly what they
talked about was how to organize to destroy the power of money in America.
They were pissed off about it—pissed off at the corporations, the banks, the
financiers, the corrupt legislators, the corrupt presidents, the corrupt
everything. “It doesn’t matter which party is in power,” Jeff Smith, a 41
-year-old former media consultant, told me. “The banks and the corporations
own them both.” And President Barack Obama? “He is worse than a corporate
