Dalit movement in Tamil Nadu

The Dalit movement in Tamil Long and varied history Nadu. Iyothee Thassos Erattaimalai Srinivasan, MCRajah, N. and L. Elayaperumal Sivaraj Vai. Balasundaram some springs associated with the movement in several stages. The founder self-esteem and Dravidian Kazhagam Movement, "EVRamasami Periyar (title was by women's organizations for women in Conferrence Chengalpet in 1929.) Who was also one of the earliest champions of the Dalit cause.

One of the first organized efforts for the cause of the Dalits was perhaps a letter presented to the Governor of Madras Presidency in early 1890 on the appalling living conditions Paraiyars, one of the two main groups of Dalits in the district, then Chengalpat. Subsequently, other sections Paraiyars Dalits have suffered the so-called "land Panchami. Through the years it has fallen prey caste in this country – Indian usurpers in violation of provision against transfer of their property. One hundred years later, in 1994, a movement began in the same neighborhood to restore the land to its rightful owners. This agitation, where two people were killed in police shooting marked the beginning of the current phase Dalit movement in condition.

In the 1990s, the response has been to organize Dalits. The regional movements demonstrated the strength numbers and the resulting drive, but also highlighted some limitations. First, obviously, is the fact that lack the resources, personnel and leadership to build and support large-scale movements. Of the three, the leadership has been crucial. It is in this context, the services of K Krishnasamy Thirumavalavan and should be appreciated, the first physician and later a government official in good standing. Both gave part time to help the wounded first Dalit colleagues later became leaders of movements and Dalits have been raised from politicians. His efforts and personal sacrifices have been able to mobilize the Dalits, Dalits inspire more spending time movements, and generated resources to travel fairly well established in the State. The Department of Public Information, one of the great Dalit political movements in Tamil Nadu since 1990s has been remarkably active this issue consider the atrocities on Dalit caste in the northern state. Their protests against caste oppression and high Periyar reach compliance is radical social values are used well known.

The conflict between the Dalits and the Thevars, a caste Hindu social south neighborhoods are not new to the state and Dalits have been mostly on the receiving end. An important coming confrontation between Dalits and caste Hindus in different parts of the state for almost a decade is the emergence of two major organizations, led by Puthiya Thamizhagam and Viduthalai Dr.K.Krishnasamy Siruthaigal of Thol. Dalit Women's Movement in Tamil Nadu

Movement Tamil Nadu Dalit Women was in place during the year1997 with SRED (Society for Rural Education and Development) of the human rights organization that has worked 20 years for women to promote their rights. During the last period start organizing women into groups, then as a federation. In the last stage, they start to coordinate s. groups or movements on a forum called "Forum of Tamil Nadu, women who are focused on promoting the rights of women among the common roots of the grass. Then all working among Dalit women realized the need for separate movement for women and Dalits in goal, especially the Dalits to protect their rights.

With the help of various NGOs in Tamil Nadu, who organized Dalit women and Dalit issues are standing out wherever they are. Thirty leaders volunteers from 30 districts of Tamil Nadu together to coordinate and take this movement at the base. The Dalit movement is open to women who can answer your questions and atrocities, where the fight against this movement for rights and justice. This movement is active in 16 districts in Tamil Nadu and bring the issues of violence against Dalits, the untouchables practices, discrimination and atrocities committed against them and the denial of human livelihoods.

Women's Forum Tamil Nadu (TNWF) is a statewide imitation of women's rights and gender justice. TNWF was launched in 1991 to empower women for greater leadership to strengthen the women's movement and build strong people's movement. This movement is working with some of the parties as siruthaigal Viduthalai Dalit (Dalit Panthers India-CIO). However, the transformation of the Department of Information of a party political movement seems to have led to the dramatic loss of their radicalism. It is significant that Dalit women, despite their active participation in politics, still lack of recognition and respect, even within the Dalit movement.

When Parliament enacted the Constitution (73) Amendment Act 1993, this initiative has been hailed as a breakthrough in achieving a system dynamics of participatory democracy at local level and a paradigm shift in the development process for the first time the reservation is scheduled legislative positions in local elected bodies women, the other castes (Dalits) and Scheduled Tribes. The caste Hindu leaders challenged the roles of elected local bodies reservation for Dalits. In the elections, Dalits were denied nominations in several towns where the ship President of the Panchayat have been reserved for them. Many elected Dalit panchayat presidents have suffered humiliation by Vice-Presidents and members of cooperatives and representatives of the government. For rural women and the Dalits, most of whom were elected this first position was a hard job.

Women's Movement Against Poverty and violence (MAPOVI)

MAPOVI Women coordinates the body of women's organizations from the root of the herb or federations across Tamil Nadu. root level women to be members of these federations that participate in a town Sangam in their districts respectively. In the further development of the people in each local federation became a radical force for social change and policy on the role of women. Each federation was organized through the efforts of men are concerned non-governmental organizations who believe that the empowerment of women can bring complete emancipation society. Federation of finding their own leaders to lead out their federation and these women have the power to become role models and lead other women. As a result of growing awareness of many federations met, network to find solutions of common problems, mainly problems of poverty and violence. Many joint and coordinated campaign of public actions taken by the MAPOVI women and social problems that had been the fight against poverty and violence between women.

Movement has many problems due to the efforts various lobbying. For example, the public meeting and a demonstration led by Tamil Nadu anti alcohol (MLAT) on 05.02.2002 against the introduction Aundipatti of cheap alcohol by the State of Tamil Nadu has certainly strengthened the movement. Because the noisy protest of women has reached government and political parties, and retired cheap liquor in Tamil Nadu during the month of April 2002.

In conclusion, the Dalit women, despite their participation very active in politics, still lack of recognition and respect, even within the Dalit movement. Although there is an organization of women fighting for the rights of Dalits and Dalit women put that together as a movement without a strong political support Dalit woman, even within their political parties Dalits. However, Dalit Movement in Tamil Nadu has played a significant role in Tamil Nadu Women's Forum and with the support of Dalit political parties against all forms of discrimination and rights. There seems to be a positive development in the situation of Dalit women empowerment in Tamil Nadu, albeit slowly.
