Why do women seem to be more powerful and respected in the Philippines compared with other Asian countries?
I live in New Zealand and there are people here from the Philippines and worked with them and do not understand why women are assertive and confident and how women are so into politics in the Philippines but the rest of Asia seems to be the opposite. Why? I disagree with Don Raa. We have many Chinese and Malays here and women are openly given birth and believe that men are better than them. Also, women in China and Japan to the difficulty in obtaining positions. Japan and China are very sexist. Um, Gun Zealot, eh, that women in India with burning tires around their necks? Is not part of India in Asia? What about prostitutes, including children of age in Asia, particularly in Thailand? The Asian women I know here in New Zealand that almost seem to be slaves to their husbands while working full time right?
It's a cultural question, but Korea and Mongolia women are known to be strong and firm (but not the ideal of Korea a strong woman, which seems to happen a lot in practice). You also have to remember Asia is geographically broad and many cultures have been isolated from each other (like Japan) to their culture is not as they do today. This not a surprise that will show something of the culture that others do not. EDIT – Thanks, Don. I forgot Vietnam. Now it is a country with an interesting history. From the beginning, they saw nothing wrong with women and the warriors gave women equal rights more. One of his first major revolt has been led and organized by two women, after all ^ _ ^ And weapons are not – despite the sexism, many Asian women are not mistreated. Often, there are a lot of respect for women and no are treated as inferior or injured (except India), but only the heavy glass ceilings above.
