Conservative Christian Politics

Can a Christian conservative and a liberal agnostic live together in harmony?

My husband is a conservative and I am a liberal. We are 13 years and have five children together. We've been together since I was 18 and he was 24. As I matured, and continues to learn and explore ideas, my views have changed on religion and politics. I formed my own opinion, and I'm not a child following blindly. Over the past year, I talked about my feelings about these issues with my dh, and basically says that I'm going to hell. When we arrived in general, was not particularly religious, by the way … I, however, was raised Catholic and attended a Catholic school quality. We are growing apart? Can we, after 13 years, agree or disagree? Are we close the mouth if no harm will? I am a bit here …. torn

I'm at home, mainly because my stepfather is a retired pastor and Witness for my husband is very strong. I respect their beliefs and as I am one whose views have changed, I keep to myself. We have learned that there are issues on which we agreed to disagree, and do not go, unless we are willing to fight. I would not call that more was more, as described to establish the separate identity within a marriage. There is nothing wrong with being two distinct and unique people, because even if you are completely opposite ideas and interests, you can always learn from each other in other areas that are not as volatile. As far as children are concerned, our eldest son has also expressed his disbelief in traditional Christian dogma and openly expressed to me and his grandmother one day. I told him to change the subject, and later took him aside and told him that if he is allowed to have their own beliefs, as it was in the house of his father, who should walk the walk and talk about unless he was willing to take a battle of epic proportions with his father and grandfather. Surprisingly my rebellious son usually took my advice and give me a little wink whenever we have to say thanks to the dinner table. I hate not fully able to share my views with my husband, but I also understand that I have friends with whom you can discuss and explore issues that are too unstable for two of us.

Rated: NASynopsis: At the start of the 20th century, two ideological movements began to shape the path of American politics, liberalism and conservatism. Do we base our political beliefs on the individual, or society as a whole? Should we regulate the free market? Do we hold on to traditional American social values? Th e conservative ideology stands for the preeminence of individualism versus government mandated social programs, maintaining a market economy that shields investors from government regulation, and adherence to traditional Judeo-Christian moral virtues. The early conservative movement was energized by the emergence of key figures like William F. Buckley and Senator Barry Goldwater. It still took twenty more years for voters to back candidate Ronald Reagan, America’s most celebrated conservative. The formidable rise and viability of the Tea Party continues the evolution of modern American conservatism.
