
How did politics divide the early republic?
Pretty much the same as today– lots of “mudslinging”– political cartoons– and so forth. The difference was the political parties used to setup a table outside the voting place– with different color ballots for their candidate — and offer a drink of whiskey if you would VOTE FOR their candidate!
This sounds to me like a much BETTER system of elections than what we have now.
