Francis Bacon and the evolution of the modern age Homophobia

The term homophobia is at least one hundred years. [1] Before that, Gay distaste for the behavior has been hidden in the vernacular of the modern England, especially 17th century London, by the words "sodomy" and "sodomy." In the 18th century, men who had sex exclusively with men have been deemed "he-whores." [2] Francis Bacon, the father the scientific method and indeed a man ahead of his time in many ways shows that he believed that "love between men, which is an illegal threat" in The New Atlantis (Written in 1610-1614 and published in 1623). In other words, this hero inspired Real Sociedad remain nothing feminine or effeminate, length arm.

Their letters of protest against homosexuality was not evident in real life, however. Although his public career ended in disgrace in 1621, [3 posts] Bacon went on to influence the Royal Society and the expansion of scientific method in an experimental philosophy is still practiced today in modern medicine worldwide. In 1667, forty-one years after Bacon, the founder of the scientific method and writing in English, was signed by one of his apprentices who said his "generosity goes beyond the natural love of a father" [4], Thomas Sprat, a historian of the Royal Society, credit would be Bacon and his "noble task of philosophy of a great treasure of wonderful imagination "as someone" new philosophy "bigger than the Greeks [5].

In four decades, Bacon went to the victim of his "love between men" Grand Master of a society that has moved the methodology of philosophy both physically and temporally. The Royal Society almost eradicated the Socratic method, comparing not only "the spirit of the fable and the world's religions former [5], which only poets and imperfections, but the philosophy of physics would be to an "English anyway inventory contains more large natural and mechanical discoveries. [5] This transformation is based on outdated myths to more mundane things in nature and tangibles, such as Sprat "Mechanics" was the beginning of homophobia. Long before "gay" is used in everyday language that respect the rights and equality for a minority of people who love members of their same gender, EU leaders have been the criminalization of homosexual relationships.

In a statement to consolidate the legal fate of sodomy, William Blackstone, a magistrate in England from 1765-1769 and, without doubt, the writer most influential laws of England and United States, wrote in Commentaries on the Laws of England, "Anal [It] is so dark nature that the accusation is false if it deserves lower sentence than the crime itself … I'm not going to act unpleasant part of my readers and I, to insist more on the subject, the mere mention of which is a shame for nature human. [6]

If, in this case, nature is a product of God as described above, then the man, be kind, is of God. Balckstone added, "This Offense [is] the voice of nature and reason and God's express right to determine capital flows. An example of the signal, long before delivery [A Jew, Leviticus] for the destruction of two cities by fire from heaven, then it is a universal, not just a provincial, precept. "13 The use of" capital "elevates the crime of sodomy in the highest order and" human nature "Back links the story of Sodom and Gomorrah. Sodom and Gomorrah of risk is identified with fire, a natural element, but the fire is sent across the sky. The line between the fable, a story of thousands most likely transmission years and is not a witness, and as a natural event is unclear.

In his introduction, natural laws, Blackstonewrites in the Commentary, "Our laws, [the faith is the Lord] Bacon, mixed as our language and our language is much richer, more comprehensive laws."

Without But before Blackstone, which was Thomas Hobbes, would have been a good friend of Bacon. [7] However, it would be before the publication of The New Atlantis Hobbes's Leviathan that created [8] which provides the basis for most of Western political philosophy and explains that natural law is divine, because God created nature [9]. The laws that were natural and unnatural would be the cement of the utopian university Bacon as described in The New Atlantis:

    • We Appeals Chamber of Solomon, the most noble of the Foundation, as we believe, that ever was on earth, and flashlight of this kingdom. It is dedicated to study the works and creatures of God … because we have certain parts of his works, that you get lost, ie the natural history, wrote of all plants, from the cedar of Lebanon to the moss grows on the wall, and all things that have life and movement … God wants the glory more in manufacturing of them, and fruits was higher among men in their use, which also gave the middle name [10].

The institution of the House Solomon is where the work of God is in the natural and human classification of such dedication to this production. The science component is an addition to God Bacon uses generalizations as "cedar" and "foam", but the purpose of the torch "House of Solomon in the studies of the common man and found "more glory" in the interior. The Latin term for plants like Cedrus atlantica, Cedrus brevifolia, Cedrus deodara, in the laboratory a botanist of today is equivalent to human "middle name."

The symbolism implied Sodom and Gomorrah is the latest of Atlantis:

    • We now free men, there was no danger of total collapse, and has experienced the greatest joy, to go abroad and see what they had to do in the city and places adjacent within our tedder, and gain the knowledge of many of the city, not the lowest grade of humanity whose hands find and freedom as such and the desire to have strange, as it were, within them, as has been enough to make us forget everything that was dear to us in our own country, and continually we met a lot of things worthy of observation and the relationship [11].

The expansion of discovery is to be free and not be in "danger" over "human destruction." We will follow in nearby cities or far, Bacon utopian man should see these places where foreigners Take Her "among them" and "make the man] [forgotten" their country, because is well received there. In Atlantis Bacon, Sodom and Gomorrah are set up as the antithesis of that place. In Ezekiel, the author tells the story of two strangers angelic being raped by all the people [7]. There is also a metaphor for a being a disciple to go outside cities. We can say, to avoid hostility or places "minor" Quality is a mantra of Sodom and Gomorrah

    • There, where the theme of vice, or take nursing courses are condemned and censored. … The governor is sitting at the end to implement, public authority, the decrees of Tirzah, if they must be disobeyed, however, rarely has something; such reverence and obedience they give to the order of nature [...] And because of the spread of the family comes from the union Bridal [12].

The case against sodomy in The New Atlantis before its entry starts here explicit "Masculine love" later in the text. Obey the direction of Bacon is spread through intercourse bridal family "and avoid" Vice " to protect the rights of enforcement in Bacon's utopia.

Since the behavior of the same sex can not produce biological children, he could do to promote of families in the traditional sense, this lack of obedience he "anguish" for the families and the death penalty, which eventually became the prevailing sentiment at the time of Judge Blackstone.

Bacon obligations of the two concepts of "human nature" and marriage to another because she wanted to distance his scientific method the notorious pederasty of the Greeks. While this distance is implied in the passages that precede the term "masculine love," the role of sodomy is one of the main concerns of Bacon, a man who had no children of her own and a brother who was also accused of crimes of sodomy, even those who were convicted. [10] As the act explicit charges against pedophilia, Bacon is clear:

    • As for the male love, please do not in contact with him, and yet so faithful and inviolate friendships in the new world they are there, and talk in general (as I have already said), I have not read any chastity as any people as theirs. And the common word prostitute is someone can not worship, and say that respect for the autonomy of man, is, next to religion, the main obstacle of all vices [7].

While scholars of the 1990s, as Joseph Cady, Charles Forker Jonathan Goldberg, and have identified the use of Bacon of "male love" as a means of denouncing the evils of same-sex behavior and a veiled insult launched in Europe "Ugly" [12], the case against sodomy was well established before the widespread use of the term. Bacon connects "copulation" by women, to raise awareness that before using "male love" to describe something as sodomy. In the seven times that Bacon uses the term "love" in Atlantis none of them are in a sexual context. The term appears when we speak of the love of God or man's love for God. Love "male" is a man's penis and chastity with oneself in a way that does not make good seed uterus. Love the building not mentioned with any woman in The New Atlantis. If Bacon had wanted called "sodomy" would have had ample precedent in the text to make it natural for the reasons already mentioned. Sodomy, by definition, is a fact that not based on love, because it refers to an act of rape. If "male love" must have a meaning in a man who loves another man (rather than a teenager) should be considered a natural phenomenon a man who wants to have sex with another man in human nature.

The Home Rule Act of masturbation and sodomy sodomy mutual acts of men are the seed residues in the two cases of "love between men." The use of "friendship" is related to "no", which means Bensalem. These friendships are "inviolable", which means it can not be broken. Cady argues that love "male" is connected to the "friendship" since both words occur in a sentence into two parts of the structure and development warning to "male love" it would imply that even if men do not get along, have a faithful friend "[12].

Because what is against nature, Bacon advised "To prevent something worse … deflowering virgins, unnatural lust, etc.". [7] sodomy, rape, and bestiality of English society attributes facto "Lust against nature." [13] To identify through sodomy "male love" is more what Bacon has already indicated, either indirectly or not. "Play" means that "he" is a tangible quality, and a man loving another man of no culture is a concept that existed in the 17th century. The Greek practice of pederasty was gay, where Greek men (men and Roman) have sex with young men trainees or students [14].

Trumbach Randolph wrote in the 1600s "to be a man was to experience sexual desire than women." [2] men old young couples, with the help of their mentors and marriage, which Bacon had made his apprentices. Explains Trumbach

    • [In] all human societies than those under the influence of the Christian religion, it was legitimate for two men to have sex with them. There were only two restrictions: that adult men who have sex with men also marry women and produce families, the adult male in the sexual act always take the active role or penetration … [Christian Europe] has given the XII century wrongful act, all sexual relations between same-sex [2].

The immorality of same-sex couples would not be an examination of love, or would be considered masculine for both parties, since the conventional wisdom is that the strength of male labor to maintain their masculinity in the male person is perceived as less manly. This perception is so dominated English society that led to young people gay men in prostitution, transvestism, or at least assume the effeminate manners [15].

Masturbation, however, is of little importance for the ancient Greeks and Romans [16]. Since the term "masculine love" is used by the character of Atlantis Joabin, who is a Jew and a merchant, said, "is not as chaste as the sky as a nation of Bensalem [7], which is a warning from the book of Genesis. Under Jewish law, sperm was lost against the Torah, punishable by the death of God:

    • And Judah said unto Onan, Go to your brother's wife, and raise seed to thy brother. Onan knew that the seed is not to be his, and he came when he went to the wife of his brother, who poured on the ground, lest he should give seed his brother. And he was displeased the Lord: he also took the [17].

The seed lost a product of masturbation considered by many religions today, and is widely discouraged at the time of publication of Atlantis [18]. God demands obedience of men to the laws of nature. Onan God implementation illustrates the presentation of a man who loses his seed, either in an act of sodomy or masturbation (Both of which are condemned by Paul 1 Corinthians) [18]. Joabin is "chastity" means before Bensalem warns against "the love between men." The chaste man is "more fair and admirable," according Joabin (and Bacon). It is here that Bacon reveals his contempt for the cultures of Europe. Compared to Bensalem, Europe is similar to the "pollution and dirt" and "where sin becomes art." Bacon has seen the dirt from his own eyes, after it was British ambassador to the French crown to Henry III from 1576-1579. In this passage, Bacon refers to Paris, a city crowded by sewage infamous, people, and "prostitutes" by the 17th century [19]. Renaissance art and artists like Michelangelo Bacon jab the Italians [20]. Words such as sodomy, chastity, and the result of conjugal relations in the offspring already presented to the reader before Joabin reference to "love male "Therefore, the explicit nature in the next term, which is a bow" himself … is a flange (crime) in services, other than religion. [7] In other words, the preservation of clean seed of man and his spirit is free breed vice and the remains of the natural order. There is no art "perversion of sin" to distract and not encourage their desire to shit, and not to young to threaten their masculinity.

Sodom and Gomorrah the fate of Onan, the references are all Joabin references to stories in the book of Genesis, an attempt to illustrate the many Bacon to create its own genesis. For every man, empowered by King Solomon of the House its mission is "just to give us knowledge." mission [7] Bacon is to bring the Catholic faith with science, is facing a problem because society English as a whole has been very cautious about the consequences at the beginning of science, for fear that scientists have tried to dissect and discover the wonders of God [21]. Bacon's vision was to create a renaissance of humanity and creation by making men only second to God, "the restitution and reinvestment rights the sovereignty and power … he had in his first state of creation, "wrote JM Robertson, editor of the philosophical works of Francis Bacon [22].

On the last day of the trip in Bensalem, King reveals the true invention of the House of Solomon: "For I give you, for the love of God and men, a ratio of the Royal House of Solomon state … God bless you, my son, and God bless this relationship, I did. I give permission to publish for the good of other nations, because we are here in the bosom of God, an unknown land. [7]

Bacon Manufactured genesis begins with a love redefined from a gender perspective: men. "God in the Womb" is for man, or "son." Whereas God lost after Adam ate the forbidden fruit of knowledge (taking the fruit of Eve) in Genesis, The New Atlantis opened the door to knowledge of a relationship you closer to God than any man before him. But it would be for fans of Bacon's scientific method to make sure they were human enough to keep each other in God, or they too would be considered against "human nature" by early modern society.

The historian Joan Scott writes: "The principle of masculinity based on the repression of the feminine aspects are necessary … repressed desires in the unconscious mind and always a threat to stability gender identification "[23]. Masculinity is a theme in the first modern works of the Royal Society, second only to the science itself. Although Bacon defined man must be a person who is chaste, not "dirt" and able to have many descendants of his family, the Royal Society for extending this definition in line bringing the scientific method was to present to the public.

Scott principle applies even to the early writings of the Royal Society. The repression " feminine aspects "not only work to support women in the society for more than two hundred years, but it's all" female "as we try to ignore completely [24]. This included sodomy, but the idea of a sodomite would be more passive or receptive partner in sex between men. desires "repressed" presented at the Royal Society "unconscious homoerotic overtones written code that exposes the same threat that Bacon felt when he tried to distance communities of pedophilia as the Greeks and Romans. The additional dilemma after Bacon's death and posthumous adulation as the father of scientific method is that his master had been higher pederast known.

However, from the Royal Society historical record has been polished by Thomas Bacon Stories Sprat, 1667 the trial of Captain Rigby in 1698 is cited by the historian Randolph Trumbach as something that affected the social perception of sodomy connection England effeminate behavior:

    • Rigby was a boyfriend who tried to seduce a guy she had met at the park. One of his critics blamed your actions as "madness effeminate" as a dandy, but the spokesman claimed that, as a dude who was always interested in women too, because it "gets your bitch. "This is one of the first attempts to link the softness sodomy and was based clearly on the way to develop Rigby dresses [2].

Sodomy and the effeminate man, believes that young men who used their feminine traits or ways to attract the adult male sex or adult men who were obsessed with the behavior of women was considered mutually exclusive preventive Rigby [2]. Rigby actively involved in the management of its "whore" and, thus, was not Rigby exclusive to men. It was crazy "effeminate" as an explanation of same-sex desires. Although Rigby mention smallpox plague, venereal disease furious anger at a time, as his reason "When the boy had complained that" one woman was able to increase the envy of a man at the highest level (as Rigby said the young man had done to him), Rigby said that the women were all sick 'em D_mn "[sic], they are all pox'd, I nothing to do with them. "

Kevin Siena writes that by 1590, people thought that sex with women, especially prostitutes, which is the cause of the plague of smallpox (which discussed today as syphilis) [25]. Currently, however, a man who said the same sex in her fornication sexual history would be suicidal to his reputation, and therefore, the dangers of sex between men was implicit.

In 1710, as highlighted Traumbach sex with men as an active partner, was the only way for an early modern times John could have sex, "according … John Dunton, in 1710, followed a similar course: Prostitutes are "Gallants burned as [John], now come the whores" in use. These men were to him, however, "a new society. . . S_D Call'd ites [sic] men worse than goats, dressed in a skirt.

In the window of time that England dominated venereal plague, Bacon had written two books that are cited often by historians, even as Jan Golinski and Evelyn Fox Keller, and sexist in nature, the male birth of Time (1603) and The New Atlantis.

At the time of male births, fears of the women were Bacon its impact on the seed of men:

    • All agree that the truth is the daughter of time. How cowardly, tracking the perpetrators, but to allow time for authors and the author of all authority, less than yours! Nor were his hopes only established the universality of time, but the special prerogative of our time … while if a man must start work on a new investigation, it was, but as a little light on the previously rejected, and rejection done in oblivion [26].

Bacon speaks of the authors are under the authority of time, which in this case is "the author of authors' and he (his" maturity "), which implies that time is synonymous with God. "Hope" Time is an author attracted universal character, direction of travel ahead of time that passes, and man, as the author of Bacon, a prerogative "Write the truth before the end of time, as suggested by" our time. "Bible led to the creation of Adam Bacon's own alienation from God "Genesis" does not isolate the men of natural philosophy, because now they were simply "girls" or women and are subject to a third God, the author, truth, or rather, time, man, women. Keller wrote, to paraphrase, that Bacon was asking men to submit to God not to be distracted by the impurities and a hermaphrodite "mind [27]. It also shows that scientists and other Bacon knew the consequences" bisexual. " [27] However, the concept of bisexuality was not in the vernacular of modern Europe [28]. At that time, if one was considered a hermaphrodite professionals Medicine deciding the baby's sex, then the child could be baptized a boy or a girl, and expect to have relationships with the opposite sex. [29]

On the other hand, the fear of femininity Bacon has its roots in sexuality and Scripture disease combined. If the mortality rate for men has increased due to Sex illegitimate, such as smallpox plague, this will contribute to prejudice against women Bacon, the plague was a catalyst for the dispute to the Bible, because God, in terms Bacon, punishes anyone who has sex outside the wedding spread in any way sanctioned masturbation (self-sodomy), homosexual rape (Sodomy), or prostitution (lust).

In caring for oneself and the masculine birth of science, presented its expansion Golinski in writing with Keller:

    • Francis Bacon expression "male birth time," the title of an essay fragmentary … was cited as a symptom of a male desire to control a feminine nature. Bacon has been exposed as a prophet of misogynistic ideology that had ruled the science since his time, a destructive philosophy responsible for the oppression of women and the plundering of the natural environment [24].

The parallel Golinski of this writing that "his time" and Bacon's "universal time" has the property of Bacon's time and man. To do nothing as a man, would be derogatory, "coward" to God. "

Golinski, while admitting that influenced Bacon subjugate the role of women in science, it also recognizes that the marginalization of science Bacon pulse with "time." Bacon says explicitly that it is the work of man as a part of what is now the scientific method, which determines the sex between girl and the author. If women are truths, truths that exist for men posterity. Truths are seeking new every man and masculine ideal of work. A "man discovered the truth" can also be dismissed as an error if misguided another man for his work. However, this work by the author, must be documented, or, Bacon says "It was, but light on previously rejected, and rejection into oblivion. "The destiny of the woman (the" truth ") The control is not a man, but men. Bacon women embody the" truth " that is considered worthy of the "new light", or addition, "forgetting."

This order of Bacon is the "truth" that must be found by men, are crystallized Golinski of view. Golinski concludes his article, "after rejecting marriage and natural product …" The birth male " modern science has had the top position meticulous care bachelor of science itself. "Line of its title, The Birth of time, women take the active role required to give birth to something, but "the working man." With women in the New Atlantis, the feeling is that they create the desire and passion that the "dirt" and disease.

Keller and the equation Golinski Bacon to see anti-feminine, is that he wanted to promote dispairity between the feminine side of men and science – the protection of "pure" and the purity is masculinity. Keller point about bisexuality Bacon is debatable, since the birth of time creates own men monk Bacon of science: a eunuch. Whereas, if the spirit of man was the least bisexual, Bacon, which is predetermined by natural law over their writings.

Cady, professor of medicine and literature, gays and lesbians in the same article in the "male love", says: "[In The Atlantis] New laws do not distinguish a culture discreet homosexuality does not mean that this culture has no consciousness and language of homosexuality. [12] Assuming Renaissance England that had an awareness of homosexuality, even before the term was there, then it homophobia, too. perceived the conduct of the outside world, pedophilia and homosexuality is the search for England's to impose Bacon as the new epicenter, and Eden, a new thought.

Not to be chaste, and to ensure that women do not mean sexually active men with oneself or another man. Both options emulate Greek and Roman philosophers and their stories sex, in turn, the exact opposite of what Bacon wanted to accomplish establishing a new philosophy, natural philosophy and the scientific method. anyting to be like the Greeks, could jeopardize Bacon methods as ethereal as a philosophy born physically not documented debate.

The threat Nature and education has been perculating long before Sigmund Freud and BF Skinner. With his aversion to war and hunting fueling rumors of his effeminate personality Enrique III, who served in the French court Bacon was ineffective leader of any action. [30] Tudor-Stuart drama, Native Americans were portrayed in the New World as effeminate sodomites in the Elizabethan theater. [10] Meanwhile, in Italy, Girolamo Cardano was the establishment of links between same-sex and nature in 1547 by linking sexuality to astrology and the position of the planets, went on to say that its conclusions that "cure" the sodomites and prostitutes [31]. In the investigation of Bologna, Codes (Bartolomeo della Rocca) has published physiologist beginning in 1504, which linked a taste for sex same sex as natural as the color Hair or lines on the hand [32].

The two latter have heavier consequences. With Cardano, connects the position of the planets, some of the building of God, a quantifiable level of male (Mars) and female (Venus), which is a first indication of speech development in the continent. Not only the discovery Cardan suggests that when a person born of the sex is determined by the position of the planets, but also to pronounce a cure for this, but [no drug methods 32].

In the cases Cocles and observations, he writes: "I see these people have a soft flesh of her throat cut, effeminate, thin legs and often large soft ankles, his face pale and tough provisions, and the passion of many other signs … [] A large number … 40, 50, 60, 65 and 70. [32]

These results are proposed, the first foreknowledge is not unlike modern stereotypes of gays and the latter becoming a desire to by the opposite sex, but born with this predisposition. Codes and behavior of correlation Cardano be effeminate and passive partner, receptive.

The momentum before the scientific method, is extinguished by Bacon's vision of a society of people focused on perpetuating and chauvinism, one day, homophobia. As providers were considered effeminate men of sodomy (a word which itself has shades diverted because it is a reference Bibical free fall of a story of civilization) The New Atlantis sets to identify the defining elements of a heterosexual man who has so much son. The son of a knowledge repository chaste spirit soles and serving God's truths. effeminate men, by contrast, have no place in the House of Solomon, because these ideals are, what submission to the role of women.

About sixty years after Bacon's death, John Aubrey, 17th century biographer and member of the Royal Society, Bacon labeled homosexual "in short life, ironically with Greek characters, in order to censor the masses (and perhaps with a cheeky sense of humor) [33].

In search for a philosophy about the natural laws, perhaps Bacon should count their blessings that he could live to see the New Atlantis, published in 1626, in 1533, sodomy was punishable by death.

As MacBeathian that is, forced sex overabundance of fat results in the literature that would inspire internalized homophobia Blackstone and other laws to the power of minorities and justifies the murder conviction and dispose of later centuries. Bacon's emphasis on procreation would be deep influence on the Royal Society. The organization to all men, Bacon said his father would keep his macho themes provoke a wave of fear campaign with the English company. Anal sex has become the scapegoat for England by smallpox "plague" and demonized as monstrous hermaphrodite as noted in the mid-decade 1700 by the Royal Society Dr. James Douglas, who later assumed it was a controlled "point" events and other events is not natural. [29]

Douglas A decade after John Locke, philosopher of the Enlightenment and also a member of the Royal Society, wrote that sodomy was the result yield to the impulse of the individual that changed the public beliefs that have occurred sodomites del Diablo. The ramifications of Locke's theory was that man can choose whether or not to do something "against nature." [4]

Jeremy Bentham, years before he created the philosophy of utilitarianism and articles is supported equal society by positive laws that extend rights and not limited by using nature as a factor commented on specific legal crimes against himself to leave comments Blackstone Treaty. But Bentham did not publish the manuscript that argues for the decriminalization of homosexuality for fear of reprisals from those who sympathize with the company have the same "sexual tastes" [6]. Bentham condemned article, eventually published in the Journal of Homosexuality (1978), would have added basically saying the rights of homosexuals in the Enlightenment, if it had been published when it was written (1785).

While Bacon was made with love "male" who hypocritically denounced, would have been "to forget", with a contribution most important Western discourse: the scientific method.
