When it comes to politics ……….?
Do people need to go back to school and learn skills in reading and listening to things in entire context – rather than depending on clips or fact checkers?
What has happened to the American people that they are no longer capable of searching out TRUE information for themselves and taking entire speeches/text and listening to them and drawing a conclusion on their own – with out some website or person telling them HOW to THINK?
Why can’t some Americans think for themselves anymore when it comes to politics in particular?
Sad to say, we live in a time when 30 second snippets are all some minds can handle. By the end of that 30 second snippet, they’ve already moved onto the next story, and are bored with what they’ve been hearing. Then, when they try to repeat it, it gets all lost among the other 30 second snippets they’d heard throughout the day, so it comes out like someone just dropped a casserole on the kitchen floor…all jumbled up, and a royal mess. The thing is, the average person doesn’t make the time to check things out. I get at least 3-4 forwards a week that I have to check on, and forward it back to the person, letting them know that it wasn’t true. You’d be surprised at how many people don’t want to be told the truth! One person was very upset with me pointing out that their forward was false. I guess I’m just too perfect. Yeah, right. I just don’t like misinformation being spread. Like the one about Madelyn Murray O’Hare trying to get In God We Trust off our money (she’s been deader than a doornail for years), and the one about James Dobson being involved with keeping the airwaves safe against the FCC taking religious broadcasts off the air (also not true). But you’d be surprised at how many will continue to spread that junk around, even after having been told that it’s not true. Parents just don’t take the time with teaching their kids how to listen & stay focused. People have TV-shaped eyes, glazed over from watching Survivor & playing Wii. Ever read Farenheit 451? I think it should be required reading in every high school lit class, especially now. I really believe our society is headed in this direction, where TV is all society is interested in, getting all their needs met through the screen. The books were burned because it was illegal to read them. The government didn’t want people to know how to read, because then they would think. And a thinking society is dangerous. We need to be a thinking society…dangerous to our government. Dangerous in that our government knows what they know, keeping them real. I’ve been told that the most dangerous thing in America is a housewife with a phone & a pen, being able to call her representatives about the issues that concern her & her family. Most people just don’t want to bother with politics. There are certain people I know that I can’t even talk about politics with. There should be few subjects that two friends can’t talk about. I don’t agree with those who say you can’t talk about religion, politics & money. If you don’t talk about it, how ya gonna learn what & how the other side thinks? Even though people don’t agree on certain “taboo” subjects, that doesn’t mean they can’t exchange ideas on these issues. Maybe too many are scared of change, and don’t want to learn anything new. Then, they’d be responsible for what they know. Ignorance is bliss, to some. Like, if you don’t open your phone bill, you’re not responsible for paying it, right? And as far as politics go, I think most people know that all politicians lie like a rug. But, since they know how to move & shake through the halls of congress, we allow them to do so, and pay them handsomely. It saves us from having to do so ourselves, since we’re such a busy bunch of bees. We allow them to do our thinking, yet fight to defend their stupidity. I guess it’s like being loyal to your favorite football team, even when they’re in the tank. Go figure. <*)))><
