how is left and right wing defined in british politics?
does it place more emphasis on social or economic ideologies? my understanding is (i may be wrong) that left wing economically is greater state intervention in the economy whereas right wing leans more towards a free market. socially left wing describes less state interference in individuals (laws etc) and socially right wing would be authoritarian (lots of laws to regulate citizens).. which of these gauges is used commonly when describing a parties standpoint?
for example im leaning towards libertarianism who are far left socially and far right economically, how would this party be described?
another example, the bnp… always touted by the media as far right but economically are quite radically left wing..
its very confusing and i can only assume theres a whole ton of people out there just as confused as i am.. shouldn’t we be getting taught things like this if we are to make decisions about our future rulers?
Social ideologies. Nobody gives a flying toss about economic policy when the BNP started puling about “sending them all back”.
