Great Britain Politics

great britain politics
, United Kingdom England, Britain?

What is the reason people say that Andrew Flintoff (cricket) David Beckham (footballer) Andy Murray (tennis) is from England or the England team World Cup 2010 FIFA which soccor players from different countries such as Scotland, Ireland, etc. Players also sometimes known, for example, that Andy Murray is Great Britain. I think in politics as the nations of the members of the United Nations appointed as England UK. What is the reason for the different names? And who of the three names is the oldest name?

In some sports, there are independent team of England, Scotland, etc. .. and sometimes there a combined team from Great Britain. It has to do with the governing bodies of sport and the popularity of this sport. Football is so incredibly popular, there are enough players in each country have their own governing bodies / equipment ... etc. But for something like hockey, is different, is a minority sport - even in the 1980's had a much smaller number of teams Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland than in England, so it will never be able to put together a decent team. Always Be Giants Belfast NI at high now, and Wales in the 1980's there was only Deeside Dragons and Cardiff Devils (who played at a level much lower than the Devils). Wales team was basically Cardiff Devils! Funding also comes into it, football can achieve much more than sports like hockey, so they can afford separate teams.
