English people – would you consider voting for the English Democrats?

“England has been buried under a ‘British’ identity by the three main political parties. England is not a disparate collection of Euro-regions, nor is it a cash cow for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The term “British” is an imperial term- a hangover from the once great British Empire, whereas the term “English” accurately describes the people who live in England.

Personally, I regard myself as English, and British, in the same way that a Scot might regard himself as both Scottish and British. There is nothing wrong in that, it merely states the obvious. Despite what John Prescott once said, England does still exist! And so do the English people, too!

The English have existed as a nation since before the Norman Conquest- more than a 1000 years! They had a parliament before almost anyone else; later, mistakenly, they let in the Scots, the Welsh and the Irish! And then later, used it to rule an empire- now disbanded, and called a Commonwealth!

Now however, following devolution for Scotland, Wales and N. Ireland, the English find themselves in democratic deficit! To right that wrong, the English Democrats are campaigning for an English Parliament- something I believe the people of England have every right to deserve and enjoy!

(However, personally, I would be prepared to forgo that- providing the Scots, Welsh and N. Irish give up their devolved assemblies! And what chance is there is of that?)

I am an English Democrat, and proud to be one! I want my folk to have, no more and no less, what their fellow citizens enjoy: A right to govern themselves! Simple really, isn’t it?
