The federalists and democratic republicans determined it way back when jefferson was president, he was for the federalists and Hamilton was for the demo-republicans.
people decided to vote for jefferson because he was FOR THE PEOPLE! and from then on so did Andrew Jackson and the country started going for the democratic republicans then they split and it became democrats and republicans!
