Masters degree in UK?
I am interested in going back to the UK to get my masters, I have been looking into programs at UCL, London School of Economics and Oxford. However, I have no idea what the admissions standards are for these schools and I would really like to be able to have an idea of what kinds of grades and such they expect before I apply. I would be coming from a top ranked US public university and I am looking into programs on International Politics or Human Rights. Thanks in advance!
I go to LSE and they recommend having at least a 3.5. I’m doing a MPP and my undergrad GPA was 3.57 at UC Santa Cruz, so if you top that you’ve probably got a good shot. At least with my program they also look favorably on real world work experience (almost everyone had worked for a year or two) though my flatmate came right out of undergrad at LSE and he does history of IR (he got a first for his undergrad [the top degree in the UK ranking system] and I assume he’d have pulled at least a 3.67 at a US school.)
Note that all of these schools get enough US applicants that I’m sure they can tell you what numbers they require if you contact them.
Also FWIW the UK is EXPENSIVE right now, especially London. If you don’t have cash on hand be prepared to take out a lot of loans. London can also get a bit depressing during the winter when you have what seems like twenty minutes of daylight per day. But at least the LSE programs only take a year.
Good luck.
