Essential Leadership Skills – Managing office politics

One of the skills that successful leaders must master is a bit of a dirty word today. This is not the kind of thing they offer leadership training courses, but it is in the heart of most business relationships. This is I want to talk office policy.

When we call someone a political animal, "often are not free. We likely to say they are manipulative and unreliable, even immoral or dishonest.

A person who is good in politics, in our eyes, is someone who likes to win points on the other, trying to fight for the top stack of his colleagues.

But politics is all about manipulation. There are more than that. And we like it or not, politics is everywhere in place work and a good leader must know how to get the most out of it.

So what politics is about good leadership? Well, First, the policy is to be aware of the effects their words and actions on others. And – most importantly – also means knowing how to influence people.

In a previous article we discussed the management of change as a political process, but let us focus a time when your interpersonal skills in the direction the change in policy to negotiate, persuade, influence. These leadership skills are essential for success and survival.

In some ways, the changes in an organization is like running a political campaign. If done correctly, people support you and your decisions.

How to get your people to accept Change:

1. First, set your campaign team. It is not only his fellow leaders that helped to complete the plan behind the scenes, also influential people within your organization. You need to identify carefully and well. These are people who can influence other people. Maybe people who can not achieve. If influential people to know and support what you do, work will be easier.

2. Now, get ready. You and your fellow leaders have worked in the plan for some time. You know the amount of work went into it, and you know how much is critical to your business. Now is the time for all on board. But be prepared: not everyone will like.

3. That debate continues. Listen to what everyone says, careful not to spend all your time with people who agree with you. The company policy:

3. Make sure there is only surrounded by "yes" men and women. You should hear the devil's advocates – that way you are less likely to make mistakes.

There are more, of course, there's more. But faced with office politics in a project by project and not go too far from the truth. Leadership is sometimes described as a contact sport. It is not so much what know that I know.
