“I was there!” When you watch movies and TV programs you’ll be amazed how many times they’ll show establishing shots of cities like London and Paris and you’ll easily recognize them. It helps you connect to the film or the show and let’s you potentially impress the person you’re watching it with. Also, whenever Europe is mentioned in the news or in a conversation, you’ll have a better understanding of what’s it’s like to be there, and how Europeans live.

Follow your roots. If you have ancestors that are from Europe, you should go get an idea of where you come from. It will help you get a better understanding of yourself and you’ll have a bigger appreciation of your family tree.

Looks great on Facebook. Nothing will fill your friends with jealousy more than your beaming face next to the Eiffel Tower or you running with the bulls. The status updates alone are worth the trip. Let people know when you’ve arrived at the airport in Rome. Let them know that it’s sunny and beautiful on a French beach. It shows that you’re a well-rounded, well-traveled person that is having a blast!

Fewer people are doing it. It used to be a big thing to travel abroad, but these days with the economic downturn, many people find it harder to get out and travel. If you can do it you will be the beacon of light that gives others hope to get out and see the world for themselves. You get to be the trailblazer and show them that’s it’s still possible, even if you take a no frills, shoestring trip.
